Cookie Policy
Brooksmissy sets no cookies at all. It does keep a few small notes in your browser's storage so that your account, the age check and your choices work. This page lists every one of them.

1. No cookies, no trackers
Our pages do not set any cookies, and our server does not send any. There is no advertising, no analytics, no social media plug-ins and no tracking of any kind. We load no third-party scripts, fonts or images, so no other company can place anything on your device through our site.
2. What browser storage is
Besides cookies, browsers offer two kinds of storage that a site can use on your device. Local storage keeps small notes until you or the site removes them. Session storage keeps them only until you close the tab or the browser. Unlike cookies, neither is sent to our server with each request. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) treat them the same way as cookies, which is why we list them here.
Most of the keys below are essential: they make something work that you asked for, such as your account or the age check, and the law does not require consent for them. One key is optional, and we only use it if you choose "Accept optional" in the cookie notice.
3. Every key we use
| Key | Where | What it is for | Type | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
bq.users | Local storage | The accounts created in this browser: email, player name, name, date of birth, part of the UK, hashed password and recovery key, Pebbles, level, favourites, Holt progress, player care settings and the sound setting for signed-in players. | Essential | Until you delete the account or clear this site's data |
bq.session | Local storage | Which account is signed in, after you join or when you sign in with "keep me signed in" ticked. | Essential | Until you sign out or clear this site's data |
bq.session | Session storage | Which account is signed in, when "keep me signed in" is off. | Essential | Until you sign out or close the tab |
bq.lockout | Local storage | A count of failed sign-in attempts for each email address, and the time of the last one. After five wrong passwords, sign-in pauses for one minute. | Essential (security) | Reset by your next successful sign-in; otherwise until you clear this site's data |
bq.age | Local storage | That you answered "I am 18 or older", so we do not ask on every page. | Essential | Until you clear this site's data |
bq.consent | Local storage | Your choice in the cookie notice: accept or reject optional storage. | Essential | Until you change it or clear this site's data |
bq.playStart | Session storage | When this visit started, so the time reminder in your player care settings knows when to speak up. | Essential | Until you close the tab |
bq.sound | Local storage | Whether sound is on or off, for visitors who are not signed in. | Optional (only after "Accept optional") | Until you clear this site's data |
That is the complete list. If you reject optional storage, we never write bq.sound; the sound switch still works, but only for the page you are on.
4. Things we keep only in memory
Demo mode stores nothing. When you play without an account, your practice credits live only in the page's memory. Reloading the page or closing the tab clears them, and nothing about your demo play is written to your device or sent to us.
5. Changing your choice
You can change your mind at any time. Open the cookie notice again with the button below, or with the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page, and choose "Accept optional" or "Reject optional".
If you switch from accept to reject, we delete the saved sound setting (bq.sound) straight away and stop saving changes to it.
6. Clearing storage in your browser
Before you clear anything: your account exists only in this browser. Clearing this site's data deletes the account, its Pebbles and its progress for good, and we cannot restore it.
Menu names change from version to version, but the steps are usually:
- Chrome: click the icon to the left of the web address, open "Cookies and site data", then "Manage on-device site data", and delete brooksmissy.co.uk.
- Edge: open Settings, then "Cookies and site permissions", then "Manage and delete cookies and site data", then "See all cookies and site data", and remove brooksmissy.co.uk.
- Firefox: click the padlock to the left of the web address and choose "Clear cookies and site data".
- Safari on a Mac: open Settings, then Privacy, then "Manage Website Data", search for brooksmissy.co.uk and choose Remove.
- Safari on iPhone or iPad: open the Settings app, then Safari, then Advanced, then Website Data, and swipe to delete brooksmissy.co.uk.
Private or incognito windows clear everything when you close them, so an account created there will not survive the session.
